1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that get saved to your device when you visit a website. They’re used for all sorts of things: keeping a website working properly, remembering your preferences, and helping website owners understand how their site is being used.
Some cookies are set directly by the website you’re visiting (first-party cookies). Others are set by third-party services running on that site, such as analytics tools or advertising platforms.
2. How we use cookies
Our website is built on WordPress and uses a small number of cookies to function properly, to help us understand how people use the site, and, where you’ve agreed to it, to support our marketing.
We don’t use cookies to collect sensitive information. Any health data you share through our booking system is handled separately and covered by our Privacy Policy.
3. The cookies we use
We’ve broken these down into four categories below.
Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies keep the website running. Without them, things like page navigation and form submissions wouldn’t work. Because they’re essential, they don’t require your consent under UK PECR rules.
| Cookie name | What it does | Set by | How long it lasts | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| wordpress_* | Manages the WordPress session and login state for the admin area | WordPress | Session | Necessary |
| wordpress_logged_in_* | Keeps track of whether someone is logged in to WordPress | WordPress | Session | Necessary |
| wp-settings-* | Saves your WordPress interface preferences | WordPress | 1 year | Necessary |
| PHPSESSID | Keeps your session active as you move between pages | WordPress | Session | Necessary |
Analytics cookies
We use Google Analytics to see how people find and use our website, including which pages are most popular and how long people spend on the site. All of this data is anonymous; it doesn’t identify you personally. Google acts as a data processor on our behalf for this.
For more on how Google handles this data, see policies.google.com/privacy.
| Cookie name | What it does | Set by | How long it lasts | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Assigns a random ID to distinguish visitors from one another | Google Analytics | 2 years | Analytics |
| _ga_* | Keeps session data for Google Analytics 4 | Google Analytics | 2 years | Analytics |
| _gid | Identifies unique visitors; refreshes every 24 hours | Google Analytics | 24 hours | Analytics |
| _gat | Limits how often requests are sent to Google Analytics | Google Analytics | 1 minute | Analytics |
Functional cookies
These cookies remember your preferences and help the site behave in a more personalised way. They might be set by us or by a third-party tool we’ve added to the site.
| Cookie name | What it does | Set by | How long it lasts | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| wp-wpml_current_language | Remembers your language preference if the site has multiple languages | WordPress/WPML | 1 day | Functional |
| woocommerce_* | Stores cart and customer information if online purchases are enabled | WooCommerce | Session / persistent | Functional |
Marketing cookies
These cookies can be used by advertising tools to build a picture of your interests and show you relevant adverts elsewhere online. They don’t store personal details directly, but they do use a unique identifier tied to your browser.
We’ll only set these if you’ve given your consent through the cookie banner.
| Cookie name | What it does | Set by | How long it lasts | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| _fbp | Used by Meta (Facebook) to track ad interactions and conversions, if Meta Pixel is active | Meta | 3 months | Marketing |
| _gcl_au | Used by Google Ads to track whether an ad led to a website visit | Google Ads | 3 months | Marketing |
| IDE | Used by Google to track ad clicks and measure campaign performance | 1 year | Marketing |
One thing to flag: marketing cookies will only appear on your site if you’ve set up the relevant integrations (such as Meta Pixel or Google Ads). If you haven’t, these cookies won’t be active. We’d recommend checking your active plugins to confirm what applies to you.
4. Managing your preferences
When you first visit our website, you’ll see a cookie banner asking whether you’re happy for us to use non-essential cookies. You can accept all, accept only the essentials, or choose which categories you’re comfortable with.
You can update your preferences at any time using the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer of our website. Alternatively, clearing your browser cookies and revisiting the site will reset everything.
5. Managing cookies through your browser
You can also control cookies directly in your browser settings. Most browsers let you view, delete or block cookies, either across the board or for specific sites. Turning off certain cookies may affect how well the website works.
Here’s where to find the settings in the most common browsers:
- Google Chrome: support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647
- Mozilla Firefox: support.mozilla.org
- Apple Safari: support.apple.com
- Microsoft Edge: support.microsoft.com
6. Opting out of Google Analytics
If you’d rather Google Analytics didn’t track your visits at all, you can install the official opt-out browser add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
7. Updates to this policy
We’ll update this policy when needed. For example, if we add new tools to the website or if the rules change. The latest version will always be on our website. If we make any significant changes, we’ll re-prompt your consent through the cookie banner.
